About the Journal

Introduction

Journal of Nursing Education of Nepal (JONEN)  (ISSN Print: 2091-0894 and ISSN Online: 2090-7942) is a peer-reviewed, scientific, open-access journal . The publication was started in 1998 A.D. (2055 Baisakh B.S.) and is published annually. The journal prefers good-quality research papers with clinically oriented studies that provide an immediate impact on health and policy.

JONEN is an official publication of Maharajgunj Nursing Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Maharajgunj Nursing Campus is a pioneer campus in Nepal, established in 1956.

Scope of JONEN

 JONEN journal publishes original articles, case reports, and review articles in the field of nursing and health sciences related to different aspects like medical education, public health, health policy, health care management, including ethical and social health issues. It aims to provide a platform for publishing scientific papers related to the nursing profession (Adult/Midwifery/Child/Psychiatric/Community) education, clinical/field practice, and administration and management. The journal prefers good-quality research papers with clinically oriented studies that provide an immediate impact on health and policy.

Open Access Policy

The JONEN is an open-access journal that provides unrestricted access to all its published content. JONEN allows readers to read, download, copy, distribute, and print its contents to readers.

Article submission/processing/publication fees

JONEN does not charge any fees for submission, article processing, publication, and reading. 

Funding for Publication

JONEN collects payment neither from authors as an article processing charge (APC) nor from any advertisement. The publication-related work by editors and reviewers is voluntary. The direct as well as indirect operational cost of the journal publication (online or print) is expended by the Maharajgunj Nursing Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

Copyright Policies and Licensing

The Corresponding Author has the right to grant on behalf of all authors to the JONEN. Author(s) grant the non-exclusive publishing right to the JONEN, which includes the rights to publish, reproduce, distribute, include in indexes or search databases, or other media in print or online. The JONEN may require revisions to the manuscript before acceptance for publication or may choose not to publish it based on the judgment of the editors. Further, JONEN might retract, withdraw, or publish a correction after publication, to ensure good publication practices based on guidelines set forth by the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

Articles published by JONEN are under the terms of a Creative Commons - Attribution-Non-commercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0), which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is given appropriate credit, but not for commercial purposes.
Authors should transfer of copyright of the published works to JONEN. However, the authors have the right to 

  • retain patent and trademark rights
  • retain the rights to use their research data freely without any restriction
  • receive proper attribution and credit for their published work 

Journal Ethics

We are committed to meeting and sustaining standards of ethical conduct throughout the publication process. We follow the guidelines produced by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) to provide guidelines for best practices to meet these requirements.

Manuscripts submitted to this journal should not have been published or under consideration for publication in any substantial form in any other publication.

Archiving Policy
The print version of the journal is archived in the Central Library, and the digital version is archived on the journal's website.

Editorial Policy

  • The articles will be accepted for publication only after declaration by the author/s.
  • Data and references in an article are the sole responsibility of the author, and any attempt to falsify them will be considered an offense.
  • The manuscripts are subjected to peer review by two or more experts, without revealing the authors' identities.
  • The opinions expressed in the articles are the author’s own and do not necessarily reflect the views of the publisher or the editorial board.
  • Only one article by an author is published in one volume, regardless of the position of the author (principal or co-author).
  • The contributors will be informed about the reviewers’ comments and acceptance/ rejection of the manuscript.
  • Non-response or delayed response to proof copy may delay the publication of the same article or may even result in rejection from the journal.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the final right to accept articles for publication

Manuscript Submission

  1. Manuscripts must be written in clear and concise English following the author's guidelines and submitted to the JONEN email address: mncjournal@iom.edu.np
  2. Corresponding authors should clearly mention their address, along with their email address and phone number, as mentioned in the declaration sheet.
  3. If the author wishes to withdraw a manuscript, a written letter signed by all the co-authors, addressed to the ‘Chief Editor’, should be submitted to the ‘Editorial Office’.
  4. Before sending a manuscript, authors are requested to check for the latest instructions available at www.jonen.edu.np

Peer-review process

  • All manuscripts received are acknowledged by the Editorial Manager of JONEN.
  • The manuscripts submitted to JONEN are initially screened by the editorial board. Manuscripts are also assessed for the presence of plagiarism during this initial screening. Manuscripts with insufficient originality, serious scientific and technical flaws, or a lack of a significant message and a substantial amount of plagiarism are rejected.  
  • Poorly written and those not complying with the journal format are requested to resubmit after the revision according to the format. About 30% of manuscripts are rejected by the editorial board without proceeding to the peer-review process.
  • Manuscripts approved by the editorial body are proceeded to the peer-review process. JONEN uses double-blinded peer review. Manuscripts are sent to two expert reviewers without revealing the identity of the authors and reviewers to each other. The average period from submission of the article to final decision is 6-8 weeks.
  • Each manuscript is meticulously reviewed by the JONEN editor based on the comments from the reviewers, and a final decision is made on the manuscript. The contributors will be informed about the reviewers' comments and acceptance/rejection of the manuscript.
  • Articles accepted will be copy-edited for grammar, punctuation, print style, and format. Page proofs will be sent to the corresponding author.  Non-response to the proof copy may delay the publication of the article or may cause rejection.
